The 4pm call.

The daughter calls the front desk every day at 4pm. She gets voicemail. Designing CareOS for the family member, not the buyer.

Every facility we work in has a version of the same story. A daughter calls the front desk around 4pm to check on her mother. The line rings through to voicemail. She leaves a message, eats dinner, doesn't hear back, and lies awake at 2am running through everything she doesn't know.

This is the moment we design CareOS around. Not the admissions packet, not the nurse station dashboard. The 4pm call. It's the point where a family member realizes that loving someone in long-term care means living without a window into their day.

The family surface is not a monitoring app.

We made an early decision: we would not build a camera feed or a vitals dashboard for families. Watching a parent through a phone screen is not closeness, and it isn't what the daughter is asking for. She wants to know her mother is okay, in language a human would use.

So the family surface is three things. A short summary that arrives in the morning — how the night went, mood, meals, anything worth flagging. A Companion at the bedside that picks up when she calls, in her mother's room, on her mother's terms. And a clean path to a nurse the moment a clinical question shows up.

What changes at 4pm.

The call gets picked up, because Companion is already in the room. The answer is real, because it comes from the device that's been with her mother all day. And if the daughter says something that belongs in front of a clinician — a new pain, a missed dose, a worry that doesn't sit right — the handoff to the floor nurse is one step, with the context already attached as a note.

The next thing we're shipping is the morning summary in the family's preferred channel — SMS, email, or a short voice message — so the 4pm call becomes a conversation, not a check-in.
